Icebreaker: What three words best describe your life before becoming a Christian?
Sermon Discussion –
- Was there any part of the Gospel explanation this week that was a particular encouragement to you?
- Was there anything new or anything you struggled with?
- Explain why God’s holiness means he can’t simply “ignore” our sins.
- Why did God accept Christ’s death on the cross as payment for our sins as opposed to our own individual deaths?
- Describe the difference between God’s “repair” of the world and God’s “restoration” of the world.
- Does that distinction change anything about how you interact with the rest of God’s creation?
Going Deeper
- What do you think it looks like to see the “putridness of our own sin” versus seeing the sin of others or the sin others have done to us?
- When we see God’s love for us that offers us forgiveness, how can we demonstrate that same love to others who have hurt us or sinned against us?
Next Steps
(This last question might work better as a setup for prayer and reflection instead of sharing individual responses)
- Are there any areas of your life (how you treat others, your tolerance for a secret sin, your unwillingness to give over a part of your life, etc.) where you are making light of God’s holiness and love?
Prayer Time:
This might be a good week to have prayer time be more reflective, asking God to show us things in us he wants to reveal about our attitude toward our sin and others.
