Have you ever experienced being misquoted or witnessing someone being misquoted? How did it make you feel?
Sermon Discussion – Matthew 4:1-11
- Reflect on the idea of misquoting and manipulating God’s words. How does this happen in our lives or in society?
- How can we guard against misquoting Scripture and ensure that we have a complete understanding of God’s message?
- Jesus’ temptation was not about the act of jumping, but about his deeper desire to experience God’s love.
- What are ways Satan tempts us to doubt God’s love?
- How have you felt tempted to doubt God’s love in difficult situations?
- How have you found victory in holding fast to God’s love?
Going Deeper
- How can we cultivate a genuine trust in God’s promises without needing additional confirmation?
- How can we rest in God’s promises even when waiting for His timing?
- Jesus was being tempted to believe that God’s words are only true if God does what Jesus wants him to do.
- Discuss the concept of testing God by putting conditions on God.
- In what ways do we sometimes try to dictate terms to God before we offer our love back?
- How is this reflected in our willingness to follow and obey God?
