GROW GROUP QUESTIONS

Icebreaker:

  • What is the messiest job you’ve ever had, or the biggest mess you’ve ever cleaned up?

Sermon Discussion – Read Ephesians 6:5-9

  • While reflecting on the sermon and the verses from Ephesians, what stood out to you?
  • Pastor David said Roman Household Codes are about who has the power. In what ways do we see that still being the driving narrative in our world today?
    • If Paul wrote to undermine the narrative of power, in what ways can we also deny power that we might have in our lives in order to submit to others around us?
  • Pastor David said that these verses were not to lift the slave to the level of master but to bring the master to the place of a slave:
    • Why is this an important distinction to make in our lives today with each other?

Going Deeper  – Read Romans 6:2, 17-22, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

  • Why does the Bible use slaves as imagery of how we are to see ourselves in Christ? How does this make you feel when you hear about what slavery was like in Ephesus/Rome?
  • What does the implication of being “bought” mean to you and how you live?
  • What does it mean to submit to each other in the context of being “slaves of Christ”? (Read also Ephesians 5:21)
    • What does a heart that believes this, value the most?
    • How does that look as we live together in a church family?

Prayer:

  • Spend time praying together for our church and one another.

Reminder for Next week: We will be in Ephesians 5:22-33  – Read ahead!
