GROW GROUP QUESTIONS

Icebreaker:

  • If you could permanently eliminate one chore from your to-do list, which would it be?

Sermon Discussion – Read Ephesians 5:3-17

  • Where do you think your definition of sexual immorality came from?
  • According to the text, why is it important for Christians to avoid obscene and foolish talk or crude joking?
    • How does this relate to actual sexual behavior?
    • How does this relate to thanksgiving?
  • What does Paul mean when he says that those who are sexually immoral, impure, or greedy are “idolaters?”
    • Why and how does this impact their inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God?

Going Deeper

  • Pastor Steve talked about times when we cut something immoral/wrong out of our life entirely, and other times when we put a “spotlight” on the immoral/wrong thing to identify it.
    • Why is it important to let the Holy Spirit guide when you decide whether to cut something out or not? Why not just cut out anything that is suspect, and tell everyone to do the same?
    • How do you know when to do which? Give examples if possible from your own life of both choices.
  • In verse 6, Paul challenges the people of Ephesus to not be deceived by empty arguments. Can you think of any examples, either now or in the past, where you have accepted any definition of sin other than God’s?

Prayer:

  • Pray for each other based on how you answered the last question. (Suggestion:  go in a circle and pray for the person on your left)

Reminder for Next week: We will be in Ephesians 6:5-9  – Read ahead!
