Grow Group Questions Sept 17, 2023
Announcement: Take time to look at the Grow Group Covenant in the next few weeks with your group. Also, take some time to discuss ways to be more intentional with your group this fall.
Icebreaker:
- Do you have any prayers that you have memorized or remember from childhood?
Sermon Discussion – Read Ephesians 1:15-23
- What jumps out to you about Paul’s prayer?
- Is there anything that is unique or different about Paul’s prayer that might not be consistent with how you normally pray?
- Why or why not?
- What keeps us/you from praying for the things Paul is praying for?
- What do you think it means to pray for “wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him[God]”? (CSB version)
- How does this type of prayer impact our relationship with God?
Going Deeper
- Pastor David pointed out the three things Paul prays for from verses 18-19 (His calling, His inheritance, His power). Which of these is one that you realize you need to understand better and bring into your prayer life the most?
- Paul expounds on God’s power: Read those verses again (19-23).
- What stands out to you in Paul’s description of God’s power?
- What do you think it means when he says it is “for us who believe?”
- How does Jesus, and what he did, relate to our “hope” and “power”?
- How would praying for God’s power impact our daily life differently?
- Where do you need to see God’s power the most in your life today?
Prayer
- Take time to pray Paul’s prayer and personalize it as a group. Try to have people take one of these and pray it for their own lives instead of for someone else.
