Icebreaker:

  • What was the most generous thing you were ever given?

Sermon & Scripture Discussion – Read Acts 4:32-37

  • In Acts 4 we are given a clear picture of what was summarized in Acts 2:45. What are these two chapters telling us about what generous living looks like in Christian fellowship?
    • Do you think God wants us to see this type of generosity as normative? Why or why not?
    • Have you been on the receiving end of this type of generosity? What impact did it have on you?
  • Pastor Steve said “One of the marks of the early church was that they shared their possessions. No needy persons! Can you imagine?!?”
    • What would Bethay look like if we saw our possessions and money as God’s and shared with one another?
  • How do you think “fear” impacts our generosity? What types of fear have you struggled with personally (Fear of loss, fear of not having your needs met, fear of someone not being wise with your gifts etc?)

Going Deeper

  • Look at Acts 4:33. Pastor Steve challenged us to consider why this verse is inserted into the rest of this story.
    • How does our generosity as Brothers and Sisters with one another impact how the Gospel is seen and ultimately embraced by those outside of the church?
    • Why is it important for generosity to begin with in the church family before going out to unbelievers? Why do we often get that backwards?
  • Read Matthew 6:24 and 2 Corinthian 9:7
    • How do these verses work together to help us understand Biblical generosity?
    • How are they also a warning to us?
  • How do you feel God challenging you in how you express generosity with your money when giving to the church and other believers?

Prayer Time: (Pray for each other based on responses to the last question above)
