Grow Group Questions – February 19, 2023

Glenna Lenardson   -

Icebreaker:

  • Why is communication the mark of any healthy relationship?
  • For you, what might have been the most challenging part of the message, or most revealing?

Sermon & Scripture Discussion – Read Acts 2:42

  • Pastor David said that of all the devotions listed in this verse prayer might be the most mystical, confusing, or unknown.
    • How does that statement reflect your experience with prayer.
  • In Acts 12 the followers of Christ were praying but missed seeing God answer their prayers. Has this ever happened to you? What keeps us from seeing God when he is moving?
  • Look at the Disciple’s prayer in Acts 4: 23-30. Why might the disciples begin the prayer by recalling God’s sovereignty (VV.24-28)?
    • What benefit might there be in recalling God’s character and actions in biblical history? In your personal history?
    • How can this help us pray more in line with God’s will over ours?
  • Pastor David showed how the results of this prayer was also the execution of Stephen. Does this challenge the way you think about praying for God’s will? Why or why not?

Going Deeper

  • Pastor David shared these three reasons that answer the questions of “Why we pray”:  to see God work, to align with God’s will, and to draw closer to God.
    • Read Luke 18:1 – In Light of “why we pray”: Why do you think Jesus also tells us this? How does the “why” Pastor David talked about in the message impact how we understand this verse?
  • If you were honest, how would you currently describe your prayer life? Active? Distant? Confusing? Given up? Wondering? Solid?
    • Why do you describe it that way?
    • Do you see God calling you to something new or different in prayer?

Prayer Time: (Focused Prayer time as a group!)

What is an area of prayer God is calling each person in your group to grow in. Let’s spend time praying for each other for those things.
