Grow Group Questions – September 18, 2022

Glenna Lenardson   -

Announcement:

WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS:

Challenge your group to prepare for next week’s sermon by reading through the book of 2 Timothy at least twice.

Icebreaker:

If you could choose a theme song for 2 Timothy, what would it be?

Sermon & Scripture Discussion:

Read 2 Timothy 1:8-12

  1. What stands out to you most about this week’s message? Is there anything you especially liked or struggled with?
  2. What is the main theme of verses 8-12?
  3. Parker talked about how shame is a natural feeling when we are suffering or being ostracized for the Gospel. How have you noticed the local culture in La Crosse shifting in recent years in regard to faith? Why is shame such a common reaction to the Gospel when our culture makes these shifts? Share how this affects your daily life.
  4. From your experience what aspect of the Gospel most offends the non-Christians in your sphere?
  5. In these verses, is Paul saying that we should never experience shame for the Gospel? Why or why not?

Going Deeper:

  1. Suffering is a part of our “Holy Calling” (vs 9), how would our view of suffering for the gospel change if we viewed it as a part of our job description?
  2. Discuss the encouragement we can find in our suffering when we look at it through the lens of eternity. Does this lens give you hope? Why or why not?
  3. Are there things you know God is asking you to do but because of timidity, fear or worry you do not do them? Name them.

Prayer Time:

  • Spend time praying for each other regarding areas of shame or suffering that may have been shared during your discussion this week.
  • Also, pray for our church as we prepare to meet our Candidate for the new Lead Pastor.
