Announcement: . Men, regardless if you attended No Regrets we have several new studies you can be a part of over the next few months. Check them out! https://bethanychurchlax.org/mens-ministry/ Icebreaker: Who is or has been the best listener in your life? What did they do to show that to you? Sermon Discussion - James 1:19-27
James wisely advises us to listen more than we talk.
When people talk with you, do they feel that their viewpoints and ideas have value more than yours? How do you know this to be the case?
Reflect on a time when you were quick to anger. What was the situation, and how did you respond?
Did you prioritize listening to the other person's perspective?
How could you have handled the situation differently based on the sermon's message?
In what ways do you see unrighteous anger manifesting in today's culture, especially in the church?
How does this type of anger hinder the message of reconciliation and unity that Jesus preached?
Going Deeper
What is James saying is the fruit of being an authentic doer of the word? (Look at Verses 19-20 and 26-27)
How is our modern Christian definition of “doer” contrary to what James is teaching? How did this happen?
How can we ensure that we are actively listening to God's word?
What are some practical steps we can take to be "doers of the word" rather than just hearers?
Discuss the irony highlighted in the sermon regarding James' teachings against revolution and the ultimate cost he paid for his beliefs.
How does this challenge our understanding of pursuing God's kingdom over worldly priorities?
Pray Reminder for next week: Read James 2:1-13
