Icebreaker:  
  • When you were a kid what was the one rule you were most afraid to break?
Sermon & Scripture Discussion - Read 1 John 1:8-2:2
  • How would you define sin?
  • Are “sins” a list of things not to do, or a way of protecting our freedom for the things God has given us to do? Explain.
  • What has the greatest influence for defining what is right or wrong in your life: yourself, other people, or culture?
  • Are there things that are sins for others, but not sin for you personally? Explain your answer.
    • How do we navigate these things in the context of church fellowship?
  • How do you feel about others’ struggles with sin becoming a factor that affects what you personally can or can not do?
    • Read - Matthew 22:36-40. How does this impact how we decide what sin is in the context of our relationship with others?
Going Deeper  
  • What is the difference between the spiritual impact of sin and the natural consequences of sin? 
    • “The spiritual results of sinning against God are the same in my relationship with Him, regardless of how severe the consequences are in my relationships with others” - Agree or disagree? Why?
  • Read Romans 6:1-2
    • How does this help us engage with sin, knowing what John says in 1 John 1:9 (Read 1 john 1:9) 
    • If I keep sinning “knowing God will forgive me”, am I really sorry for my sin? Why or why not?
