Announcement:
SAVE THE DATE - We will be having a Good Friday service at 6pm on April 7th. Children will have a separate program with Mrs. Lisa.
Commit as a group to read through 1 John at least once each week as we are in this series.
Icebreaker:
As a child, were you afraid of the dark? What made you afraid and what did you do to help alleviate your fear?
Sermon & Scripture Discussion - Read 1 John 1:1-4
John emphasizes that Jesus is God.
Why is that a vital truth to believe in order to understand the rest of the Bible and Christian living?
Why is this truth offensive or threatening for some?
How have you seen a twisting of who Jesus is and His divinity used to twist other Biblical truths?
What did it mean for John’s joy to be “complete” and how is the same joy expressed in our lives?
Going Deeper - Read 1 John 1:4-7
John’s first statement about who God is was “God is light”. Why do you think he used that and what does it communicate?
Practically what does it mean to walk in the light as opposed to walking in the dark?
How does our walk (in darkness or light) affect our ability to have joy and completeness?
If you are lacking joy what's the first place you look to understand why? Is it to your relationship with God or circumstances in life?
Why is our fellowship with God the central tension when discussing walking in light versus darkness?
John warns us that we can easily lie to ourselves, saying we are in light but really in darkness.
How can we individually counter this tendency in our Christian lives?
How can we in groups like this help each other not fall into this trap of lying to self?
