Grow Group Questions - June 19, 2022

June 16, 2022 1:46 PM

Announcement:

Ask your group about any potential ideas of names of people who might want to be deacons or if anyone in the group is interested in serving in this way.

Ice Breaker(If needed):

  • What is one of the most ridiculous arguments you had with one of your siblings when you were growing up? (Bonus Points: the more ridiculous the better!)

Sermon Discussion:

  • Tylor told us the faith of Abel helps us see how: Faith is seeing spiritual reality, and pursuing it.
    • What do you think the difference between spiritual reality, and physical reality is?
    • Can you think of an event or time in your life when it could be viewed one way when seen through our own reality, but it looks very different when we see it through (God’s) spiritual reality?
  • In Hebrews 11:4 it tells us that Abel’s offering was more acceptable than Cain’s by faith.
    • When you previously looked at their story in Genesis 4, is that how you understood the difference?
  • We all instinctively want to be Abel in this story, but more often act like Cain and get focused on the offering, rather than who we are offering it to.
    • What are some ways you see this happen in the church today?
    • What are some ways you struggle with this in your own life?

Going Deeper/Application:

  • Genesis 4:7 reminds us that ‘sin crouches at your door: its desire is for you [to overpower you], but you must master it.’
    • What are some ways in your life that you have “stopped pursuing” and maybe let sin begin to take hold?
    • What is an area of your life you feel the Holy Spirit is asking you to begin pursuing again?
  • Hebrews 11:6 Tells us ‘And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.’
    • How does this make you feel about your efforts to please God?
      • Do you think they have been rooted in faith, or rooted in humanity? (Be Honest!)

Final Challenge:

  • As we begin this series, in what way has God asked you to consider seeing faith and your walk with him in a different light

Prayer Time:

  • Spend some time praying based one what the group has shared God is calling them to in their own lives.
  • This week let’s pray for the family of our next Lead Pastor  (These are just suggestions please feel free to pray as the Spirit leads)
  • Use the prayer prompt cards given out at church
