Conversation Starter/Questions (10 minutes)

Have you ever struggled with quitting something so that you can start something new? What was that like, and how do you think it went?

Sermon Based Questions (15-20 minutes)

Read this week’s text:  Colossians 3:1-10

If you are In Christ how do you look at the struggle of sin that has continued in your life?

  • How do you set your mind on things that are above v.2?
  • If we are to put to death what is earthly in us, how might we accomplish that?

Do you catch yourself ever putting on a false image like it mentions in Colossians 2:23?

  • How might you guard yourself against being in a “faking it till you make it” mentality and start to become real with where you are in your walk with God?

Digging Deeper (20-25 minutes)

Paul opened up in the passage with sexual sin because of the devastating effects it not only has on you, as a person but what it can have on others as well.

  • What are some takeaways or lessons that you might have had about the stories of abuse around Ravi Zacharias’ sexual immorality and abuse?
  • How might we as a church walk with integrity and learn from the failures of leaders?

Going through the list of all the sins Paul mentions, “sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry… anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” V. 5 & 8, which of these are the greatest stumbling blocks for you and which are not?

  • Why is biblical understanding and community some of our greatest weapons to combat sin?
  • What are some other weapons to use against the battle of sin?

How have you, Recognized sin in your life, repented of it, and responded?

Challenge and Prayer (10-15 minutes)

Something to consider as a group this week.

How is the accountability you have as a group going? Is there freedom to speak love and truth into each other’s lives? Are you constantly building a dichotomy of trust and transparency?

Steps to consider:

  • Pray that the Holy Spirit will lead people to open up and have honest trust and discussion.
  • Have a discussion about it, don’t assume everyone is on the same page.
  • Maybe think about writing out a promise or commitment to one another.
  • Pair off into accountability groups that meet outside of group to check up on how each is doing in their walks. (Do this by gender).
