Sermon Discussion: Read Deuteronomy 22:13-30

  • How does understanding the context of ancient cultures, where women were treated with little dignity or rights, shape our view of reading verses like these?
  • In what ways do these laws stand out compared to the norms of the time?
  • Genesis 1:27 affirms that both men and women are created in God’s image.
  • How should this understanding shape the way we treat each other in relationships, both within and outside of the church?
  • Why do you think God set these protective laws for women in place in a society that did not value them?
  • How does this challenge us to consider God’s unchanging values today, even in a changing cultural context?
  • Going Deeper:

  • How can we, as individuals and as a community, help dismantle harmful narratives that place the burden of responsibility on women for the actions of others?

    • What are practical steps we can take to respond with support, compassion, and belief?

Genesis 1:27 affirms that both men and women are created in God’s image.
    • How should this understanding shape the way we treat each other in relationships, both within and outside of the church?

    Next Steps:

    • As we look at God’s heart in these commands, how can we encourage each other to live out a faith that upholds dignity and justice for women, especially in the church?
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
