Conversation Starter

This conversation that Jesus has with the Samaritan woman would no doubt be a key moment in her life. Is there a key moment in your life where you saw Jesus or a follower of Jesus reach out to you where you were at?

  • What was significant about that conversation/moment to you?
  • How did that conversation have an impact on you in that moment or long-term?

Sermon Based Questions

Read John 4:1-43

    • There is a lot in this story. What stands out to you the most, either in this story or from the message Sunday? And why?
      • What do you think this story tells us about Jesus?
      • What do you think this story tells us about how Jesus does things?

Read Matthew 11:28-29. In John 4:16-18, Jesus essentially calls out the woman’s sin.

      • How does this verse from Mathew help us understand how Jesus might have done this? – Can you think of other verses or stories that speak to this?
      • Should we approach non-believers the same way, or is that something only Jesus should do?
    • If we are supposed to also do that, what does that look like in the entire examples we see of Jesus in This story?

Going Deeper

Look at John 4:19-20

  • Why Do you think the Woman responded to Jesus in that way?
  • How do we do this in our lives today

Consider for a moment, in our own culture, city, and Churches, what or who might be our “Samaritans” that we might be hesitant to reach out to like Jesus did.

  • What keeps you or us from reaching out to them following the example of Jesus?
  • What sins have you highlighted over others that you might struggle with if you knew someone had or is doing them? How would that impact your http://armodexperiment.com Rasagaline online reaching out to them as Jesus did?
    • How can you be a part of changing this in your life and even in the church?

Read John 4:27-38, look closely at verses 34-35

  • What is the “Will” of God that Jesus is referring to?
  • What keeps us from doing that same “Will of God”?

Challenge and Prayer

It’s one thing to say we believe something, it is another thing to live and act as we believe it:

  • Do you live like you believe that God is not waiting for you to get things all fixed, to have a perfect life, before he comes to you and will use you for his glory? What keeps you from fully stepping out to obey and serve God?

Let’s come back to the questions of what your “Samaria” might be that is hard to go to or who our “woman at the well” might be that is hard to reach out to.  Spend time praying for God to soften our hearts and help us reach out.
