Announcements for your Group:

There are no announcements for the group this week.

FOR LEADERS:  please remember to respond to the email that we sent you last week regarding the Grow Group Leader Training. We need all leaders to plan to attend one of those three meetings and invite anyone in your group who might be considering becoming a leader.

Conversation Starter/Questions (10 minutes)

Go around the room and list the first three worries that come to your mind from your everyday life this week.

Sermon Based Questions (15-20 minutes)

Read Matthew 5:3 – Before this week, would you have said that you struggled with the meaning of poor in spirit? Discuss your understanding of it now.

How does being poor in spirit affect your approach to the everyday things in life? In the podcast, they discuss that poor in spirit is recognizing that we are spiritually bankrupt without God. How do you see yourself trying NOT to look spiritually bankrupt?

What are some examples of times when you trust in your own power instead of trusting in God? How does living with a poor in spirit mindset relate to where we put our trust?

Digging Deeper (20-25 minutes)

Read Matthew 6:25-34 – What makes you anxious or worried? What triggers you to worry? Think about the anxiety amplifiers around us. What are they in your life? What are ways that you give power to those amplifiers?

Discuss the difference between caution (wisdom) and worry. Share times when you try to convince yourself that worry is ONLY caution. How does this derail what Jesus is teaching in these verses?

Why do you think that worry has become an “acceptable sin” in the church?

The remedy to worry that is given in these verses can be summed up in two words – consider (proactive) and seek (reactive). Go back and look at how those two words are used in these verses and discuss how you can be of help to one another to defeat worry with these principles.

Challenge and Prayer (10-15 minutes)

How are you doing at seeking first the kingdom and the king over other things? What is one thing you feel God is calling you to do to seek Him first over worry? (Share and then pray for what has been shared.)
